Festival Rules

Lightbox Film Festival accepts submissions in the following categories:

  • Feature Films

  • Short Films

  • Documentaries

  • Animations

  • Screenplays

  • Acting Showreels

We accept work of any genre, length, or language.
Non-English films must include English subtitles.

Submissions must meet a minimum technical quality of 720p HD or higher.

The festival does not accept:

  1. Extremist or propaganda content

  2. Pornographic material

  3. Low-resolution video submissions (below 720p)

Lightbox Film Festival offers a prize pool of up to £10,000, representing approximately 20% of the festival’s total revenue.

The final prize amount is directly tied to the financial performance of the festival:

  • The prize fund is only applicable if the festival generates a net profit.

  • If overall revenue does not exceed total operating costs, the prize fund may be reduced or withheld accordingly.

  • When profit is achieved, the prize pot will equal 20% of actual net income, up to a maximum of £10,000.

  • Prize amounts may be distributed across multiple categories at the discretion of the festival organisers.

This revenue-based model ensures that when the festival thrives, so do the filmmakers.

All submissions are reviewed and scored by an independent judging panel.
Festival organisers and technical staff do not participate in final award decisions.

Judges reserve the right to:

  • Remove a film from competition if rules are violated

  • Withhold awards if submissions do not meet quality standards

Submission does not guarantee selection or nomination.
